Melanoma Referral Service

In partnership with CellPath at Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hospitals Trust (NuTH), AMLo has made its proprietary antibodies for AMBRA1 and loricrin available for a UKAS accredited referral service.

In the epidermis of normal skin the proteins AMBRA1 and loricrin are clearly present. However, original research led by AMLo’s Professor Penny Lovat (CSO) found both proteins are absent or reduced in the epidermis overlying early-stage cutaneous melanomas at risk of disease progression. A validation study comprising over 400 stage I and II melanoma samples, followed up for over seven years, has been published and demonstrates high accuracy of AMBRA1 and loricrin antibodies at detecting genuinely low-risk tumours.[1,2]

Clinicians in the NHS and private sector can now send melanoma patients’ tissue biopsies to CellPath at Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Hospitals Trust for staining with AMBRA1 and loricrin antibodies to determine which early-stage non-ulcerated melanomas are genuinely at low risk of progression.
